About Southampton Elementary
When Southampton’s first principal, Mrs. Dorthy Burton, opened the school's doors on September 30, 1959. Six hundred thirty-nine students, along with their teachers, parents, and neighbors, began a tradition of excellence that continues today. The original building, constructed by Chesterfield County, consisted of 15 classrooms, a cafeteria, and a library for students in grades 1 through 6.
By the late sixties, the building had been expanded to include thirty classrooms, an enlarged library, a multipurpose room, and a new entrance. In 2018, an additional 4 classrooms were added in modular units. Each of our classrooms is outfitted with a smart board that was purchased in 2025.
Currently, Southampton has approximately 500 students and a staff of 80.
